Kiwi Lime Smoothie

View recipe

Cool down this summer with this nourishing smoothie recipe. I get it summer is busy, and it can feel hard to eat well sometimes. Remember that you will have so much more energy if you take the time to eat well. This easy Kiwi Lime Smoothie is perfect because it can be whipped up in under 5 minutes and it is so refreshing.

Why Kiwi’s?

In addition to being so juicy, flavourful and downright delicious they offer a lot of nutrients and health benefits. Kiwi’s are high in vitamin C, potassium and fibre and they naturally contain a bit of sugar so you will notice there are no banana’s in this recipe.

Limes are also high in vitamin C, fibre and antioxidants. They add a pop of fresh citrus flavour that smells like sunshine. Citrus is so energizing so this is a perfect breakfast to start your day motivated and ready to go.

Spinach is added to bump up the nutrition in this smoothie. Spinach is low in calories, contains protein, iron and fibre. Think of Popeye the cartoon anytime he needed fuel to tackle anything he popped spinach. It really is a super food and it gets completely broken down in the blender so you can even sneak it in for those picky eater. If you didn’t tell them that spinach was in this smoothie they wouldn’t taste it because of the sweetness from the kiwi and the sour, citrus flavour of the lime. One simple health and nutrition tip is to try and get a vegetable in each meal throughout the day. I rarely make a smoothie that doesn’t have at least one veggie.

It’s smart to add a protein source and fat source in your smoothies to help keep you fuller longer and to hit all 3 macronutrients in your meal. If you don’t have protein powder you can sub for a sprinkle of shelled hemp seeds or chia seeds. Two of my favourite fat sources to add to a smoothie are avocado and garden of life MCT oil. https://gardenoflifecanada.com/products/garden-of-life-drf-mct-oil
